A double fabric is woven on a circular loom. A woollen component has loops or floats of warp on both sides. A gauze component is provided beneath it, as a backing. Interlacing yarns pass between the two components taking no further part in the formation of either component except at the interlacing points, and offering sufficient space between the components for the loops or floats to be included. The loops or floats may be formed into a pattern, and the double fabric produced may offer a luxuriant softness to touch.
