Water turbine for low heads - has centrifugal accelerator within impeller wheel to increase energy available at turbine inlet

The machine has a centrifugal accelerator (41) which has a flat front plate and a tapered back plate. The passages between them taper with a cross section which reduces from the eye of the accelerator to the periphery. There are inclined blades at the ends of the passages. A radial flow turbine (42) surrounds the periphery of the accelerator. Water entering the eye of the accelerator is discharged with an increased velocity into the blades of the turbine and the available power is thus increased. A starting turbine (43) within the accelearotor lifts water into the eye to prime the machine to start the operation.
