The machine tool operating cycle is based on a sequence (i) of radial (A), height (Z) and carriage movement (X) vectors for a number of machine tool tips (21, 22...) operating on the workpiece (1) to perform various operations (11, 12..). Each movement is co-ordinated with an origin (D1) 1=1, 2.. for the initial position of the machine tool tip, and subsequent movements are calculated by a computer which coordinates the movements of each of the tips (21, 22...). The computer unit is connected in a logic circuit with AND gates and OR gates, a reversible counter, a register unit for dimensional information and a feedback circuit to calculate error correction signals derived from a carriage and tool position sensor.
