The bottle head space above the wine is filled with an inert gas such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide or a mixt. of the two. Controlled gas pressure is used to displace wine from the bottle through a dispensing pipe as required. With the bottle stored in an upright position, two pipes pass through the cork. The first pipe terminated just inside the cork to deliver inert gas from a supply cylinder to the head space. The second pipe extends practically to the base of the bottle for drawing off wine displaced by incoming gas. Used for storing and dispensing wine esp. in bars, homes etc. The wine is kept in excellent condition by preventing contact with atmos. air which would oxidise the wine. The method of dispensing is very effective and partic. convenient when service of wine is required at frequent but irregular intervals.
