A spinning machine without spindles may be started up without any ill effects on the yarn quality due to the instability of the various mechanisms during the period of their initial acceleration. The delivery elements and the twisting and shaping rotors are made to accumulate fibres at a higher speed than the subsequent working speed. All the working elements of the spinning machine are started simultaneously so that their routine processes are synchronised during the start-up period. A yarn is obtained during starting up of the same quality as that produced during full running of the machine. The quantity of wastage is reduced.
