Mould for sample from bath of molten metal - has sealed projecting cooling tube holding deoxidising zirconium foil

The filling channel of the mould fixed at the end of a lance for insertion into a bath of molten metal for the taking of a sample, has a cooling element in the form of a projecting tube. A deoxidising metal foil is inserted into the tube and presses elastically against the inner wall. Pref. the tube is of metal and has an internal dia. of at least 3mm and a wall thickness of about 0.5mm. The foil is folded so that its cross-section has the form of a star and it extends the full length of the tube. The end of the tube farthest from the mould is closed so as to prevent the penetration of slag. Used for the taking of a correct sample without pores, etc. in both plate and rod form quickly and simultaneously, from the molten bath. In particular the objective is to deoxidise the sample, esp. in the case of rustless steel, uniformly all over.
