The machine comprises, in addition to roller drive means 4 to 8 of the notes one by one, counting means and means for receiving and reconstituting the bundle, means for controlling the length of the banknotes consisting of two rows of photoelectric elements placed transversely to the path of the banknotes, and means for lateral positioning of the banknotes at the entrance to the machine constituted by two guides 19 integral with two carriages 54 moving on a rail 56 and linked one to the other by a flexible link passing over two references. The machine may further include authenticity control means comprising an infrared detector 42 and a wire rope detector 48, as well as means for controlling the passage of the banknotes and the passage of two superimposed banknotes.
