Prepn. of organo:therapeutic substances - by hydrolysis of proteic material using enzymes from Streptomyces fradiae

Therapeutic materials from animal organ extracts (opotherapeutic substances) are prepared by treating aqueous liquids contg. such proteic materials to enzymic degradation, using enzymes from Streptomyces, esp. S.fradiae. This treatment is followed by conventional dispersion and liberation of the active components. The enzymes have both exo-peptidasic and endo-peptidasic activity, and so is capable of hydrolysing albumins and keratin which are not attacked by most other proteases. Also the enzymes may be sterilised under dry conditions at 100 deg.C., and so will not cause bacterial contamination. The enzymes are active in the temperature range 0-60 deg.C at pH 4-9 in buffered solution and in the presence of calcium ions.
