The ram (1) is mechanically connected with one, or several piston-cylinder units (2). The two cylinder spaces are connected with each other by a bypass piping (4) via equalising and cooling unit (5). The bypass piping branch connected to the lower cylinder space is fitted with non return valve (3). During the downward stroke of the ram (1) the non return valve remains closed and balancing fluid from the lower cylinder space escapes into the upper cylinder space through a relief gap producing compensating forces proportional to the stroke velocity and the gap size. During the upward stroke a balancing fluid circulation is induced via the non return valve (3), fluid being replaced from the upper cylinder space via equalising and cooling unit (5).
