Crimped connector for underground cable branch - is made from two slidably engaging parts and uses crimping matrix having teeth causing local deformation aiding contact formation
Crimped connector for underground cable branch - is made from two slidably engaging parts and uses crimping matrix having teeth causing local deformation aiding contact formation
The connector (10) is in two parts (12,14) with corresponding grooves (16) for holding the cable when they are fitted together. One connector part (12) has an opening (18) receiving the end of the branch line. Both parts (12,14) are made of a deformable metal, e.g. aluminium and they are crimped between the havles of a crimping matrix with at least one tooth on the inside. The tooth provides a local deformation increasing the electrical contact with the inserted cable. Pref. the two halves of the matrix have diametrically opposed teeth to provide symmetrical deformations adjacent the cable and the branch line. The connector allows a branch connection to be made to an underground cable without the latter having to be spliced.
