Coating process for elongated articles e.g. wires - by applying photopolymerisable varnish and irradiating with UV rays

Wires, sheaths, cables etc. are coated by applying on the external surface of the wire alayer of a few hundred microns thick of a photopolymerisable varnish and irradiating the layer with UV rays of wavelength 10-10000 Angstroms. The varnish comprises an epoxidised urethane prepolymer modified by acrylic acid, dilution monomers, reactive plasticisers and additives. Used for protecting and insulating the wire, sheaths etc. and improving their appearance. The process does not use a solvent and can be effected at a high speed (over 100m/min) with reduced energy consumption, and reduced plant size.
