Guide system for paternoster filing cabinet - has double tracks guiding forked arms attached to chains controlling movement of file carriers

The filing system using a filing cabinet of paternoster type uses a vertical cabinet (3) with travelling file holders (10) which are circulated along an endless track, and suspended from chains (5) passing around chain sprockets (6,7) top and bottom. Each holder is controlled by an arm (11) attached at a pivot point (14) to a chain. Each arm is forked, with the pivot point at the junction of the fork. Each holder has a pin (15) protruding from its side, engaged by one member of the fork. The other member of the fork has a pin (18) which travels in a guide track (19). The pin on the holder travels in a second guide track (16) outside the other track and parallel to it and to the chain during most of the vertical travel. The looped top and bottom ends (16b,19b) of the tracks are shaped to control the arms so that the holders are guided without contact as they change from an upwards to a downwards travel.
