To cheapen the construction and avoid alignment problems of its component parts, a mast discharge electrode, as used in an electro- precipitator, comprises a tube (11) having holes (15) punched transversely therethrough, cross members (12) secured in the holes, e.g. frictionally as by knurling at 16, and at least two wires (13) extending parallel to the tube and passing through holes (20) in the cross members, the wires (13) being secured in the holes also by friction, as by crimping the cross members. The provision of a non-welded construction at the wires avoids weakening the wires because of the welding, and distortion arising from the heat of welding. The crops members could still be welded to the tube if desired. IMAGE
