PURPOSE:To carry out the identification of bacteria easily, by examining the amino acid decarboxylating ability of the bacteria on an amino acid, and obtaining the difference as a change in impedance. CONSTITUTION:A carbohydrate, e.g. glucose, inositol, xylose, lactose or fructose, and an amino acid, e.g. arginine, lysine or ornithine, are added to a basic culture medium, containing a hydrolyzate of proteins essentially, and a strong electrolytic inorganic salt, e.g. disodium hydrogenphosphate, is further added thereto to prepare a culture medium. The culture medium is preferably prepared by dissolving 2.5-10g/l, carbohydrate, an adequate amount of the amino acid and 1.0- 10g/l salt in distilled water. A microorganism is cultivated in the resultant culture medium, and the specific change of impedance caused by the decarboxylating ability of the microorganism on the amino acid is measured.
