PURPOSE:The amount of steam fed and dryness are controlled according to the properties of tea leaves to improve its quality and save energy. CONSTITUTION:The amount of steam to be sent to the steamer and dryness is calculated from an empirical equation according to the water content of raw tea leaves, hardness, compression energy and the amount of dew drops adhering thereto. The steam generated in boiler A is heated by utilizing the waste heat at the chimney flue in the heating chamber (a) and jetted from the steam chamber (c) in the steamer 8 onto the tea leaves. In the meantime, hot water circulated by pump from the main body of the boiler passes through the control valve 17 and the nozzle in the steam chamber (c) into the steamer. The controllers for steam feed 12 and the hot water controller 17 are operated to control both the steam feed and the aparent dryness of steam.
