PURPOSE:To facilitate the crosslinking of a thick-walled, large profile, or special shape product by grafting a silane compound onto a chlosulfonated polyethyene/ vinyl chloride graft copolymer and then subjecting the graft copolymer to a silanol condensation. CONSTITUTION:A chlorosulfonated polyethylene/vinyl chloride graft copolymer (if necessary, a compatible polyvinyl chloride or the like can be mixed) is mixed with a silane compound such as vinyltrimethoxysilane, and a radical generator such as dicumyl peroxide to graft the silane compound onto the copolymer. The resulting graft copolymer is crosslinked easily by adding a silanol condensation catalyst (e.g. dimethyltin dilaurate) and immersing the mixture is hot water at about 60 deg.C. The graft coplymer thus crosslinked has wide use, for example, in tubes, pipes and wires.
