METHOD FOR CONTROLLING SUCKER OF APPLE ROOTSTOCK

PURPOSE:To control the suckers of apple tree, selectively and effectively, by treating the sprout growing rootstock of apple tree with an agent containing alpha- (2,4-dichlorophenoxy)propionic acid as an active component. CONSTITUTION:alpha-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)propionic acid (2,4-DP), its salt or ester, is used as an active component. Especially preferable examples of the above compound are triethanolamine salt, sodium salt, etc. of 2,4-DP. The active component is mixed with a proper solvent, solid carrier, etc. and used in the form of solution, emulsion or paste. The concentration of the active component is 0.5- 1.5% at the time of application. When the agent is scattered or applied once to the rootstock after or before the growth of sprout (preferably only to the stalk of the sucker) between May and August, the sucker can be selectively controlled after a week.
