Direct steam heating of proteinaceous feedstuffs - to remove impurities without denaturing the protein with reduced heating time

The solids, partic. soya prodts, are passed through a horizontal fluidised bed which has two zones. In the first zone which is fluidised by a mixt. of gas and steam the particles are heated by condensing steam. In the second zone which is pref. fluidised by superheated steam, the temp. is maintained and some moisture is evapd. Pref. some steam from the second zone is recirculated.
