SHAFT SEAL MEMBER EXCHANGING METHOD FOR LARGE-SIZED VERTICAL SHAFT PUMP

PURPOSE:To eliminate complicatedness in exchanging shaft seal members by shaft- sealing the peripheral surface of the shaft on the pump casing side by the second shaft seal means which allows shaft seal as necessary and then exchanging the first shaft seal member which always slidably contacts with the peripheral surface of the shaft. CONSTITUTION:After the peripheral surface of the shaft on the pump casing side (not shown in the figure) is shaft-sealed on the pump casing side by the second shaft seal means which allows shaft seal as necessary, the first shaft sealing member 14 such as gland packing which always slidably contacts with the peripheral surface of the shaft is exchanged. In exchanging the first shaft sealing member 14, protective covers 23, 23 are removed once, and each screw rod 20, 20 is advanced from the outside of the body, and the elastic body 19 of each pressure contact surface 18 is pressed under pressure on the peripyeral surface of the pertinent shaft of the vertical shaft 19. The elastic body 19 in this state serves as the second shaft means, and the water pressure applied can be sealed, and a packing retainer 15 is removed in this state, and the first shaft seal member 14 such as gland packing can be exchanged.
