Automotive tyre deflation detector - uses sprung rod beside tyre wall to detect deflation and actuate electrical contacts to trigger warning alarm

The abnormal deflation detector consists of a sprung rod mounted close to the tyre wall so that as the tyre wall bulges with diminishing air pressure it deflects the rod and operates electrical contacts which are used to activate an audible or visible warning device. The sprung rod is carried on the vehicle suspension so that it moves with the wheel. The rod is made up from a horizontally oriented coil spring with the two ends extended vertically upwards and downwards. The lower end carries a ball running near the tyre wall and the upper actuates electrical contacts connected to the vehicle electrical system and to the alarm circuit.
