PUMP OR MULTI-STAGE PUMP TURBINE WITH FIXED DIFFUSER, AND START-UP PROCESS WITH PARTIAL OR TOTAL RELEASE OF A PUMP OR PUMP TURBINE

The starter is for a multi stage turbine pump with a fixed diffuser. One of the stages is equipped with a cylindrical sluice valve (18) in the space between the runner (8) and diffuser (9). No load starting occurs with the sluice slightly open, sufficient to compensate the machine leakage. Part load is obtained by opening completely the gate valve (13) when the delivery head exceeds the suction head. This part load can be obtained keeping the gate valve shut and loading the machine in a branch pipe (26), off the delivery pipe (12).
