An apparatus for continuous drying tea cocoa beans paddy and the like in a fluidised bed comprising a drying chamber divided into a lower section and an upper section by a uniform air distribution means, said upper section of the chamber being vertically partitioned by a volute member of serial cross section disposed atom said distribution means an inlet opening provided with said lower section of the chamber for supplying hot air which enters into the upper section of the chamber through said distribution means, one or more discharge outlets disposed peripherally around the section of said chamber, the wet materials being introduced into the central section of said volute member to form the first fluidised bed therein, whereafter the partially dried materials being of low specific gravity are caused to the discharged to the next holds of said volute member to form successive fluidised beds till the materials reach the end of the spiral pathway of the volute member wherefrom the completely dried materials are withdrawn through said discharge outlets, the exit opening for exhaust air being provided in the top of the upper section of said chamber.
