1400719 Hydrogenation catalysts UNILEVER Ltd 15 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58625/ 71 Heading B1E Supported Ni-catalysts are made by mixing an aqueous solution of an Ni-salt, an aqueous solution of an alkali metal carbonate and an alkali metal hydroxide containing, by wt. of alkali metal hydroxide, at least 10% of alkali metal carbonate and a support material so that during the precipitation a suspension is formed with a temperature of 75-100‹C and a pH of 8.0-10 and separating the suspension. During the precipitation the alkalinity (excess of alkali present) is preferably maintained above 0.010 N. The catalysts may be activated by drying and then reducing with hydrogen. They may then be passivated using N 2 /air.
