The system transports plate, profiled and bar material, using transverse transport trucks with driven rollers, to move it in the lengthwise direction. The truck rollers can perform a lifting movement in relation to the trucks, so that the latter can pass under the material and lift it off the supporting structure, to allow its movement in the transverse and/or lengthwise directions. The system can be arranged for use only over a predetermined storage area, moving the material in the lengthwise direction over the entire width by moving the truck sideways towards it.
