ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThis invention is directed to the reduction ofthe strength of ice in association with solid particulatematerials, such as, for example, coal, by applying to thesolid particulate material, prior to exposure to waterfreezing conditions, a composition comprising a mixtureof a hydrocarbon liquid and an ethoxylated aliphaticprimary or secondary alcohol containing 1 to 7 oxyethyleneunits and 7 to 20 carbon atoms in the alkyl portion thereof.The composition may also contain an oil soluble alkyl etherof a glycol derived from ethylene oxide and/or propyleneoxide and containing from 1 to 3 oxyalkylene units.
