ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA process for the metallurgical treatment of pyroxenite-type ore, which comprises comminuting the ore to aparticle size range of between about 40 and 600 micron,or alternatively between about 40 to 1000 micron, andthereafter subjecting the comminuted ore to dry HIMS torecover a non-attracted apatite concentrate from weaklyattracted silicate minerals contained in the proxeniteore. Another aspect of the invention relates to therecovery of phlogopite and/or vermiculite from moreweakly attracted diopside and non-attracted apatite bydry HIMS. A further aspect of the invention relatesto particle size fractionation by pneumatic classificationfollowed by dry HIMS, electrostatic separation and dryHIMS, and electrostatic separation alone, applied res-pectively to fine, medium, and coarse particle sizefractions respectively to recover apatite from sili-cate minerals contained in pyroxenite ore.
