PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING THE CONCENTRATION OF GASEOUSOXYGEN, CARBON MONOXIDE AND CARBON DIOXIDE IN GASEOUS OR LIQUIDSAMPLES, IN PARTICULAR IN BREATH AND BLOOD SAMPLESABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREFor measuring the concentration of oxygen, carbon monoxideand carbon dioxide in a gaseous or liquid sample, a reactionmixture is used which changes colour in a characteristic mannerdue to the presence of the respective gas component. The gaseousor liquid sample is continuously mixed with the reaction mixturemaintaining a constant mixing ratio and conveyed through a flowcuvette which is photometrically analysed. Alternatively, thesample is injected into a hermetically sealed test cuvette con-taining the reaction mixture which characteristically changesits colour by contacting it with the sample. After a pre-selected reaction time the change of extinction is photometric-ally determined as a measure for the wanted gas component bycomparison with a standard reference value. The test cuvetteis sealed with a gas-tight membrane comprising several super-imposed layers of an elastic support material.Le A 17 979
