ClareABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREMethod and apparatus for conversion of an uneven arm beambalance from metric weight measurement to English weightmeasurement, and the reverse conversion are described. An il-lustrative example is a balance rated to measure in kilogramsand having a main beam scale graduated in uniform incrementsof metric weight with associated notched poises, a main weightbeing discretely positionable in respective notches. A second-ary beam scale in parallel relationship with the main beamreads from zero to a value equal to one such metric weight in-crement, along which a secondary (slider) weight is slidablefor making the fine-tuning weight measurements between res-pective graduations of the main scale. For conversion, thereis also provided on the main beam a main English scalegraduated in uniform increments of English weight with asso- Ictated notched poise arranged so that a shift in the position¦of the main weight by a distance equivalent to 400N Gramsweighs an increase of N pounds Avoirdupois. For performinga measurement in pounds, the main weight is increased by13,398% accomplished by combining an auxiliary weight there-with or by substituting a heavier main weight. A secondaryEnglish scale is also provided reading from zero to a valueequal to one such increment of English weight and having alength 13.398% longer, or a slider 13.398% heavier, than forthe secondary metric scale. In another illustrative example,a shift in position of the main weight by 2N pounds weighs anincrease of N Kilograms, the main weight being increased by10.231% for conversion to metric weight measurements, andthe secondary scale length ion slider weight) is correspond-tingly increased. In balances where the main weight in itszero position is offset from the fulcrum, then the centerof gravity of the increased main weight is offset a lesserdistance from the fulcrum.
