TITLEMELAMINE AS A NITROGEN SOURCE IN PLANT FERTILIZATIONABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREMelamine recrystallized from commercially producedmelamine is disclosed for use in plant fertilization as anitrogen source, particularly for trees and shrubs, withoutresulting phytotoxic effects at application rates needed foreffective fertilization. The melamine is recrystallized oneor more times from a water dispersion thereof to remove one ormore unidentified impurities present in commercially producedmelamine which are phytotoxic.Also disclosed is a composition for synergisticallyenhancing the growth of plants when applied to the soil aroundthe plants, the composition consisting essentially of a con-trolled release form of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (herbi-cide) in conjunction with recrystallized melamine from whichthe phytotoxic impurities have been removed.
