ENERGY SAVING REFRIGERATION SYSTEMWITH MECHANICAL SUBCOOLINGABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA refrigeration system employs mechanical subcooling tosubstantially increase the efficiency of operation and reducepower consumption. The refrigeration system includes a compres-sor for compressing a gaseous refrigerant, a condenser forcondensing the gaseous refrigerant and subcooling the liquidrefrigerant, a receiver for receiving the liquid and a pluralityof display cases having evaportors for evaporating the liquidrefrigerant.A supplemental subcooling system, includinga subcooling evaporator associated with the receiver dischargefurther subcools the condensed refrigerant before it is passedto the display case evaporators. The compressed gaseous re-frigerant is first condensed at a condensing temperature of approxi-mately 10° to 25°F above a preselected cooling temperature. Thecondensed liquid is then mechanically subcooled if necessaryto the preselected cooling temperature which should be prefer-ably approximately 50°F.
