The process consists in reacting trisdimethylaminophosphine with an alcohol having the formula H(OCu2uHu4u)unu OH in the presence of carbon tetrachloride in order to form the oxyphosphonium monosalt chloride having the formula H(OCu2uHu4u)unu OPs+s(NMeu2u)u3u, Cl in a medium where glycol is soluble and where the monosalt precipitates and is at a temperature which is sufficiently low so that the monosalt chloride is stable; in substituting another anion for the chloride anion in order to obtain a monosalt which is stable at a temperature above 0`C; in effecting a nucleophilic substitution on the polyoxyethyleneglycol oxyphosphonium salt so formed by an alcoholate having the formula RuzuCHu2uOM. Application to non-ionic surface active agents.
