In order to permit objective, verifiable determination of the length of a jump in ski jumping, a photograph is taken at the time at which the jumper is launched onto the hill. For this purpose, the jumper carries a transmitter which is switched on at the time of launching, or whose carrier frequency is modulated by means of a signal at the time of launching, and the camera is connected to a trigger controlled by a receiver.
