The leak detector, for the roof or walls of a building, has a conducting line beneath the water-proof skin and is arranged to cover the entire surface of the skin. The line consists of a cable with at least one water-resistant electrically-insulated wire and at least two further wires with water-sensitive electrical insulation. The elec. resistance of the insulation is measured continually using a resistance bridge. The magnitude of the resistance measured indicates the point along the loop at which the leak has occurred. The two ends of the line are close together to simplify connection. The line rests directly against the skin and behind any thermal insulation.
