A method of peeling (shelling) prawns which have been killed in boiling water is fully automated and comprises a number of parallel prodn. paths, each contg. transporting, singling out, orienting and similar devices for the individual prawns, all feeding onto a revolving peeling drum cooperating with cutters which slit each prawn shell so that an ejector can flush out the meat from the shell. Shells and residues are finally brushed off the revolving drum by a brush. The prawns are held individually onto the surface of the revolving drum by suction, applied to individual depressions each intended for one prawn; each row of such depressions arranged side by side to suit the number of feed paths leading to the drum is incorporated in a separate segment, the successive segments constituting the revolving drum. Used for the fully automatic shelling or peeling of prawns. High operating reliability and reduction in compressed air demand for the vacuum are achieved.
