The detector uses transmit time measuring of laser pulses for determination of the arming distance of a missile on its flight-path towards a target. The reflected pulse, as known, is supplied to distance gates (108,109) associated with a different distance. Behind the gates are series-connected integrators (110,111). An evaluator (112) can check-the integrator voltages by a continuous comparison. The comparison gives which ever is the first highest integration voltage, as well as the later equality of these voltages. If only a single distance gate is available, it is energised by a clock pulse generator and a gate exciter. The power control for each transmit pulse uses pulses of sequentially increasing time interval from the transmit pulse. To this gate may be sling-connected an integrator, with a control counter which also energises a multiplexer.
