The device has a gas-loaded vacuum chamber, and detectors (8, 9) arranged adjacent to jet direction of few-cycle-pulses and provided for time-resolved detection of photoelectrons that are produced by the few-cycle-pulses in the chamber during gas ionization. The detectors are arranged downstream of current integrators (10-13) i.e. box-car integrators, with two integration functions for detecting different flight time regions of the photoelectrons. The integrators are connected with an analog evaluation unit (17) for calculating phase of the few-cycle-pulses.
