The liq. cargo tank for road or rail vehicles uses a light construction system and can be shaped ovally, elliptically or in a case shape. The tanks may be used for the transport of liquid or gaseous material as well as powdery or granular materials. At least the lower area of the tank consists of extruded metal profiles extending in a longitudinal direction and firmly connected to each other by welding processes, whereas the remaining area of the tank is formed from a sheet metal covering. In each case the longitudinal supports (28 and 30) forming two constituent parts of the tanks skin in pairs are supported jointly by a single longitudinal support (32) and are connected to the latter by a welding process.
