Underground gallery full cut machine driving shield - has automatic extensible gap seal in front roof area

The profile in front of the shield end on the rock face side is cut by the forward-thrust cutting head of a full-cut machine mounted in a forward-driving shield, esp. blade shield, cutting galleries in tunnels or mines. The roof area between the front shield end and cutting head (13) is provided with a gap-sealing unit (16), automatically following the head's forward thrust movement. This can be adjustably located on the shield sheath, to fit, with sealing effect, against a rear surface (21) in the peripheral area of the driven cutting head. It can consist of a sliding seal, extensible towards the face on the front shield end, and pref. made up from a series of extensible sealing segments. Gap formation is prevented.
