Communications cable incorporating tension relief elements - spaced around single angular sector or two diametrically facing sectors

The cable has a core (SE) surrounded by an outer sheath (MA) incorporating a number of tension relief elements (2E) extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the core (SE). The tension relief elements (ZE) are spaced around a single sector region of the cable perimeter with an angular extent of less than, or equal to, 180 degrees, but more than 20 degrees. Alternatively, the tension relief elements (ZE) are arranged over two sectors at diametrically opposite positions having the same angular extent, which is a max. of 90 degrees. Pref. the tension relief elements (ZE) comprise individual or twisted strands, e.g. of glass fibre. They may be evenly spaced over the full width of the sector, or they may be closer together at the centre and/or the central elements (ZE) may be thicker. The cable may comprise an optical cable with a fibre optic core.
