Benz-iso selenazolone derivs. as antiinflammatories - esp. for treating rheumatic illnesses, causing no ulcer formation or gastrointestinal irritation

Novel pharmaceutical contains, as active ingredient, a benzisoseleniumazolone deriv. of formula (I) (where R is H, 1-4C alkyl, benzyl or o-tolyl). (I) are now found to have antiarteriosclerotic and antiinflammatory properties and are esp. suitable for the therapy of rheumatic illnesses e.g. arthroses or chronic polyarthritis. (I) are well tolerated by the body, are non-toxic, and, in contrast to known antiinflammatories do not cause ulcer formation or gastrointestinal irritations. (I) have a very good therapeutic breadth. (I) are already known as pharmaceuticals for the treatment of infectious diseases, malign tumours, for stimulation of the immune system and for treatment of Se deficiency diseases.
