Quenching tank for hardening workpieces - which rest on grate suspended in duct through which quenching liq. is circulated to ensure uniform quenching

In one corner of the tank is a propeller which stirs the quenching liq.; and at a distance from the propeller is a vertical duct immersed in the liq. The duct has an upper zone with a constant cross-section, and a bottom inlet zone which curves outwards to facilitate the entry of the liq. The workpieces are placed on a grate which is lowered into the duct. The space between the base of the tank and the bottom inlet zone of the duct is large w.r.t the vertical length of the inlet zone of the duct; whereas the propeller is near the surface of the liq. The duct is pref. located in a horizontal partition in the tank so the liq. is compelled to flow up the duct. Uniform quenching is achieved irrespective of the position of the workpieces on the grate.
