Vertical continuous casting plant of low overall height - used for casting steel billets, has billet guide track which can be swivelled between horizontal and vertical positions

In the plant is a mould located directly above an upper guide and support roll track (I) for the cast billet. Below track (I) is a trolley located on a vertical pillar and raised or lowered by a winch. On the trolley is a vertical dummy billet, which is long enough to project upwards through track (I) so the top of the dummy enters the mould. During casting, the trolley is lowered until it enters a pit. A lower guide and support roll track (II) mounted on pivots is then swung into a vertical position to collect the cast billet. Track (II) is then swivelled back to its horizontal position so the cast billet can be removed by an exit conveyor track. Plant is of low cost.
