Winning of gold from preconcentrates and alluvial ores - crushed and then wet milled with mercury in vibrating reactor to form gold amalgam, which is sepd. off and distilled
The ores etc. are pre-crushed, and are then submitted to wet milling and amalgamation in a vibrating reactor, followed by sepn. of the amalgam and its distn. The pref. reactor consists of a tube provided at one end with an inlet for an ore suspension and an inlet for mercury; the other end of the tube has one outlet feeding the amalgam and the suspension continuously to a separator. The tube outlet pipe is pref. equipped with a valve; and the separator is pref. at a lower level than the reactor tube. Continuous operation with the exclusion of air, so environmental pollution is minimised while the yield of gold is increased and higher output is obtd. at reduced cost.
