This remote control minimises radiation dosage to the patient. The region of interest is outlined on an image produced on a TV-screen and the x-y coordinate data are stored. This data is then retrieved to control the arrangement of the metal strips which make up the collimator. Four sets of parallel metal strips (26) are arranged along the x- and y coordinates. The outer ends of these strips are L-shaped so that they may be pulled longitudinally by bars (31,32) in the X-direction. This drive assembly is part of a sledge (59) which itself is moved in the Y-direction along rails (57,58). The motors involved (51,64) are controlled by X-Y data stored in a plotter.
