Cross tube for container tanks - cross tube acts as sump with sieve basket to clean load in tank

The cross tube (1) is for tanks (2) with two chambers (3,4). It is fitted at right angles to the tank and provides a sump which separates the contents of the tank by passing the liq. through a sieve basket (9). The liq. is drawn through by a feed pump (11) and is fed into the second chamber (4) vai a filter. A work pump (16) is fitted on a beam (15). In its conduit (17) there is a slide valve (18) which when opened allows the liq. to be pumped backwards thus cleaning the sieve (9). This method has the advantage of increasing the stability of containers with several chambers particularly on tanker vehicles.
