Instantaneous fuel consumption measurement for vehicle - using flow dependent resistance and DC motor speed sensor

A fuel consumption measurement device for vehicles with speed and fuel flow measurement sensors and a fuel consumption indicator is simply constructed, easily fitted, and gives accurate measurements of instantaneous fuel consumption dependent on speed. The speed is measured using a generator which produces a speed dependent voltage. The fuel flow measurement device contains an electrical resistance which varies with throughput. The fuel consumption indicator is a current measurement instrument producing a needle deflection according to the current passing through it. The speed dependent voltage is divided by the fuel flow dependent resistance to give a current corresp. to the reciprocal of fuel consumption. A conventional d.c motor placed between the gearbox and tachometer shaft can be used to produce the speed signal.
