The code marking system for data and TV transmission systems adjusts the frequency of an alternating current, so that two different characteristic states are designated within each half wave or period of the current via high and low amplitude values, with only a part of the larger wave being used. This allows a binary code word to be formed by two or more half waves or periods of the current. For a multiplex communication network with a number of channels each handling a respective frequency, the binary character generator is coupled to the oscillator for synchronisation of the binary bits with the zero transitions of the channel frequency.
