Composite wall or floor panel of concrete and rigid foam - interlocked by ribs and grooves provides structural strength and thermal insulation

A wall or roof or slab element for prefabrication and installation into buildings comprises a rigid foam panel with one or more longitudinal grooves in one of its flat faces and a concrete panel of complementary form, i.e. having ribs engaging into these grooves. The ribs and grooves may, pref. be T-shaped or dovetailed. The ribs are pref. locked by reinforcing bars into the body of the concrete slab. At the abutting joints, the faces of the rigid foam panels may have joints at the tonge- and-groove type. In the pref. prodn. method, the rigid foam panel material is extruded and cut to length, reinforcing anchors are fixed in each of the lontigudinal grooves, the grooves are then filled with concrete; after this has set, the panel is turned over and placed on a wet concrete slab on a vibrating table to be bonded to it. This type of panel possesses structural strength combined with thermal insulation and can be used for either wall or floors.
