Continuous casting mould with adjustable width - for casting steel slabs, where narrow mould walls are moved by drive units which are not fixed to mould frame

Each narrow mould wall can be moved inwards or outwards and tilted by two threaded spindles, one spindle being located above the other. Each spindle is located in a gearbox fixed to the frame of the mould; and one half (a) of a drive coupling projects out of each gearbox. The driving motors for the spindles are located in separate housings, which are not fixed to the frame of the mould. Each housing contains a motor with a gearbox with two retractable coupling halves (b). Each half (b) consists of a shaft, which can be driven by a work cylinder towards or away from half (a). Each housing also contains a tachogenerator and a pulse transmitter employed with a computer to adjust the width of the mould. The mould can be replaced without moving and possibly damaging the housings contg. tachogenerators etc. which are sensitive to impact.
