Motorcycle damper for rough use - has gas spring above hydraulic damper in telescopic construction

The long damper has two telescopic cylinder sections with a sliding seal between them. The upper cylinder is gas filled via a pressure control valve while the lower cylinder is filled with degassed fluid. A damper piston on a control shaft is located between the cylinders. The sliding seal is lubricated with residual fluid in the bottom of the gas spring. The hydraulic section has a captive gas spring in the bottom, in a flexible membrane, to provide a limited amount of compression.
